The 7 th Technical Workshop on Fuel Cycle Simulation (TWoFCS/NuMBAC 2026) was held from April 15 to 17, 2026 at the Ookayama Campus of theInstitute of Science Tokyo. The workshop brought together 100 participants from around the world, including 56 from Japan and 44 from overseas, and provided a forum for active discussions centered on the development and application of nuclear fuel cycle simulation tools.
TWoFCS (Technical Workshop of Fuel Cycle Simulation) was established in 2016 as an international workshop dedicated to nuclear fuel cycle simulators, which are numerical tools used to analyze and evaluate nuclear fuel cycle scenarios. Since its inception, the workshop has primarily been held in the United States and France. The 2026 meeting marked the seventh edition of the series and the first time it was hosted in Japan. Furthermore, through its joint organization with NuMBAC, the Japanese community for nuclear material balance and fuel cycle simulation research, the workshop evolved into a broader forum extending beyond its traditional technical focus.
Held under the theme “Strategy & Simulation Towards Fuel Cycle 2.0,” the workshop aimed to facilitate discussions on the future of nuclear fuel cycles in an era of renewed interest in nuclear energy. Through plenary lectures, panel discussions, technical sessions, a code showcase, and a young researcher competition, participants actively exchanged views on recent advances in fuel cycle simulation and future directions for the field.
